چکیده

Taylor models provide enclosures of functional dependencies by a polynomial and an interval remainder bound that scales with a high power of the domain width, allowing a far-reaching suppression of the dependency problem. For the application to range bounding, one observes that the resulting polynomials are more well-behaved than the original function; in fact, merely naively evaluating them in interval arithmetic leads to a quadratic range bounder that is frequently noticeably superior to other second order methods. However, the particular polynomial form allows the use of other techniques. We review the linear dominated bounder (LDB) and the quadratic fast bounder (QFB). LDB often allows an optimally tight bounding of the polynomial part if the function is monotonic. Perhaps more importantly, in case this is not possible, it also allows for a reduction of the domain simultaneously in all variables. Near interior minimizers, where the quadratic part of the local Taylor model is positive definite, QFB minimizes the quadratic contribution to the lower bound of the function, avoiding the infamous cluster effect for verified global optimization tasks. Some examples of the performance of the bounders for unconstrained verified global optimization problems are given. We begin with various common toy problems of the community, where the efficiency of the Taylor model based bounders is demonstrated compared to interval based range bounders, i.e. the mere interval arithmetic and the centered form. We also show a rather challenging Lennard-Jones problem, where the above interval based range bounders have no success, thus we compare the performance of our Taylor model based verified global optimization package COSY-GO with one of the leading verified global optimization codes, GlobSol. Key-Words: Verified computations, Taylor model, Global optimization, Linear dominated bounder LDB, Quadratic fast bounder QFB, COSY-GO.

Toward efficient parameter sweeping and optimisation of fluid performance models by Taylor-model based symbolic numerical integration

Fluid-approximation or mean-field techniques are currently very popular approaches to the efficient analysis of massivelyparallel Markov models. In this paper, we exploit the ODE-representation of these approximations to develop efficient techniques for simultaneous partially-symbolic numerical integration over parameter ranges. In particular, we borrow the Taylor model data structure of Makino...

Using Modified IPSO-SQP Algorithm to Solve Nonlinear Time Optimal Bang-Bang Control Problem

In this paper, an intelligent-gradient based algorithm is proposed to solve time optimal bang-bang control problem. The proposed algorithm is a combination of an intelligent algorithm called improved particle swarm optimization algorithm (IPSO) in the first stage of optimization process together with a gradient-based algorithm called successive quadratic programming method (SQP) in the second s...

YalAA: Yet Another Library for Affine Arithmetic

In this paper, we present YalAA, a new library for affine arithmetic. Recently, affine arithmetic has been given increased attention even from outside the traditional verified computing community, for example, in the areas of circuit design, GPU based rendering of implicit objects and global optimization. Furthermore, several improvements to the original affine model were proposed. However, a f...

An efficient one-layer recurrent neural network for solving a class of nonsmooth optimization problems

Constrained optimization problems have a wide range of applications in science, economics, and engineering. In this paper, a neural network model is proposed to solve a class of nonsmooth constrained optimization problems with a nonsmooth convex objective function subject to nonlinear inequality and affine equality constraints. It is a one-layer non-penalty recurrent neural network based on the...
